Thanks to one ambitious architect, hotel guests may soon have the ability to adjust the view from their hotel room with only their voice.
According to the Mirror, Dubai is set to begin construction on the world’s first rotating skyscraper, with an opening scheduled for 2020 in time for the city’s upcoming World Expo.
Known as the “Dynamic Tower,” the structure will span 80 stories, stretching nearly 1,400 feet into the sky. The floors, which will feature floor-to-ceiling windows, will be able to rotate a full 360 degrees on guests’ command.
First proposed by Israeli-Italian architect David Fisher nearly a decade ago, the tower will comprise a hotel as well as permanent residences priced in the ballpark of $30 million.
“This dynamic experience will offer exclusive services, luxurious accommodation and facilities for the traveler with the most cutting-edge technologies, whether for business or leisure,” Dynamic Architecture’s website states.
The hotel will offer both luxury suites and deluxe rooms.
“In addition, hotel guests will be given the unique opportunity to shape the building and choose their view, thus redefining completely luxury in the hospitality sector,” the company added. “In doing so, they will also design the building and the skyline of the city.”
According to the Mirror, the project is expected to cost in excess of $436 million to build.
Four dozen wind turbines installed between floors and solar panels on the roof will allow the building to produce its own power. Citing Fisher, Inhabitat reported the building will be capable of generating 10 times more power than it will use.
Plans for the Dynamic Tower come just a couple weeks after Dubai’s Roads & Transportation Agency revealed plans to begin regular operation of self-flying drone taxis by July 2017.
